Thursday 4th February ~ STILL ALICE
(USA, 2014, Cert 12A, 101mins, Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin,)
Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. When she receives a diagnosis of Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease, Alice and her family find their bonds thoroughly tested.
There are plenty of rave reviews for this film but there are some dissenters out there too. Comments have been made that Julianne Moore, excellent actress as she is, is far too young for an Alzheimer sufferer. In a similar vein opinions have been expressed that this is a Hollywood version, ie a sanitised version of the grim reality, “Alzheimers Light”, if you like.. Some reviewers feel that the characters lack depth and are stereotypical. The individual actors al get good reviews for their acting.
This movie has been endorsed by our august Chairman, Sorley. Dinna miss it.
