Gavin Baxter has sent more information on the formation of a Climbing wall club at the campus – see below.
The lesson to be taken from Gavin’s experience is that if we (the people of Alford) would like to use the facilities at the campus we must be prepared to fight for them. The demand for the facilities is there – the climbing wall club is now oversubscribed for the childrens group and has a waiting list – so I think the next target should be the theatre. That is a great facility but nobody can get to use it! That needs to change – we even had a drama club instituted hoping to use the theatre.
After a few weeks of forming a club Committee, creating a Constitution and applying for Mountaineering Scotland affiliation, we are now in the position to take on new members. Block costs will be £30 per child/youth (£3 for a single try-out session), which will include use of club kit. You will also be able to pay for the whole year, which for this year (3 blocks) will be £80 per child/youth. Membership of Mountaineering Scotland (MS) is required for anyone taking part in sessions, and is payable directly to MS. The blocks will be aligned to the four school terms. The club will start with 12 places for Child members (Primary school) and 12 for Youth members (Secondary school). Due to very high demand for the Child places, we have filled these already, and have a Waiting List in operation, however there are still places available for Youths, so would love to hear from anyone wanting to join us. All membership discussion will be through the club\’s email, email@example.com For more details, check out our Facebook group, at https://www.facebook.com/
