Do you love Haughton Park? Would you like to see it protected, promoted and sympathetically enhanced?
We (a few local volunteers) want to form a Friends of Haughton Park group to see this happen, following positive discussions with Aberdeenshire Council staff and local councillors.
The aim of the ‘Friends’ would be to protect, promote and enhance our beautiful park. We need other interested local people to get involved- as committee members, volunteers, fundraisers – or all of the above. We’re keen to involve people of all ages and with varying interests – the only requirement is that you love the park and want to see it bloom and flourish for many years to come!
Many of you have already shown interest in some of our plans, including a Bike Pump Track, and you may have spoken to us as part of the Alford Community Action Plan process last year. As a result we hope the Friends of Haughton Park plans will feature in the forthcoming Alford Community Action plan, which is due out soon.
Our exciting plans include various planting, wildlife and arts/crafts activities, as well as a fabulous new BMX/Mountain Bike pump track and skills area, which we hope will attract cyclists of all ages and abilities to the park, and in turn, new visitors to Alford. Maybe you have ideas for the park too?
The Friends of Haughton Park are ready to have our first event at Haughton Park and need you to get involved. We’re having a baby-tree (sapling) planting session on Saturday 7th July 10am-12noon, to make sure the park has beautiful trees long into the future. Everyone is welcome but children must be accompanied by parents/carers.
Meet us at the main playpark (by the toilet block) in Haughton Park, at 10am on Saturday 7th July, if you want to help plant, or find out more.
